Maldives Airports Company Limited has opened a dedicated Calm Room at Velana International Airport under its new Boli Programme for passengers with hidden disabilities and special assistance needs.
The facility was officially inaugurated at Terminal 1 by MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, alongside representatives from Autism Care Maldives, the Autism Association of Maldives and senior MACL officials.
The Calm Room is a sensory-friendly space designed for passengers with autism, hidden disabilities, sensory sensitivities, anxiety and others who may find the airport environment overwhelming. It features quiet seating areas, sensory play items, activity shelves and calming surroundings to provide a more comfortable travel experience.
MACL said the Boli Programme was developed to help identify and support passengers who may require additional assistance during their airport journey. Under the programme, passengers can collect Boli lanyards and cards from the Terminal 1 Information Counter to help staff recognise and provide appropriate support.
The company described the opening of the Calm Room as the first step in its efforts to create a more inclusive and accessible airport experience for all travellers.
