The Maldives has established its sixth weather observatory at Maafaru International Airport in Noonu Atoll to strengthen aviation weather services and forecasting capabilities.
The observatory was developed under an agreement between the Maldives Meteorological Service and Island Aviation Services to provide reliable weather information in line with civil aviation regulations and standards.
According to the Met Office, the new facility will provide aircraft with timely weather forecasts, warnings and other critical information, helping to improve the safety of airport operations.
The observatory has been installed at Maafaru International Airport and is planned to be further enhanced under the Systematic Observation Financing Facility (SOFF) project.
The Met Office said the addition of the observatory will strengthen the Maldives’ weather monitoring network and improve the accuracy of weather information for the northern regions of the country.
