President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation on World Blood Donor Day.
In a post on X, President Muizzu praised blood donors for their role in saving lives and supporting patients who require long-term treatment and emergency care.
He noted that despite advances in medicine and technology, blood remains an irreplaceable resource. The President stressed the importance of blood donation in strengthening health services and preparing for emergencies.
He also highlighted the need to foster a culture of helping others, especially in an island nation like the Maldives where timely access to blood can save lives.
In her message, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed described blood donors as a source of hope for patients and their families. She said even a simple act such as donating blood can have a life-changing impact.
World Blood Donor Day is observed annually on June 14 to raise awareness about the importance of safe blood donation.
