President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have visited the Thalassemia and Other Hemoglobinopathies Centre in Hulhumalé on World Blood Donor Day.
The President and First Lady toured the facility and observed services provided to patients. They also visited the patient ward, blood donor ward, laboratory and Thalassemia Patient Care Centre.
In a post on X, President Muizzu highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donors, describing blood as an irreplaceable resource despite advances in medicine and technology.
He said blood donors help save lives by supporting patients who require regular transfusions as well as those needing blood in emergencies.
The government has prioritised improving treatment, financial support and infrastructure for thalassemia patients and their families.
Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and Male’ City Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem received the President and First Lady during the visit.
