The government has decided to transfer utility services in several islands from Fenaka to STELCO.
The move forms part of broader reforms to improve service delivery and strengthen governance of state-owned enterprises. Authorities aim to ensure uninterrupted and higher-quality utility services across the islands.
Under the plan, multiple islands in Baa, Lhaviyani and Meemu atolls will come under STELCO’s operations, including Dharavandhoo, Eydhafushi, Hinnavaru and Muli.
Officials said the transition will be carried out in phases to avoid disruption. Coordination between agencies is ongoing to ensure continuity of services.
The government said the reform is aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening management and making essential services more reliable for the public.
