Police say fines worth MVR 136,500 were imposed in September for vape-related violations.
Statistics show 13 cases were investigated. A total of 24 people were fined. These include six cases of possession, three cases of use, and four other violations.
Of the fines, MVR 41,000 came from possession cases. Another MVR 95,500 was collected for use of vapes.
The law prohibiting the use, sale, and distribution of vapes in the Maldives came into effect on 15 December 2022. Under the law, importing vape products carries a fine of MVR 50,000, with an additional MVR 10,000 for each device.
Police stated that fines can be paid through Varu Pay and urged the public to comply with the Tobacco Control Act and cooperate with enforcement efforts.
