The People’s National Congress (PNC) has condemned MDP’s protest in Malé, calling it an assault on democracy.

In a statement, PNC said the “Lootuvaifi” protest defied police permits and agreements. The party accused MDP of using the protest to incite unrest and attempt to topple the government.

PNC said political change must come through institutions and debate, not street action. The party noted that protesters broke barricades, obstructed police, and threw stones and bottles.

PNC also raised concern that MDP brought people from atolls without basic needs such as food or shelter.

The party said Maldivians want stability. It urged legal action against those who disrupted peace.
