Maldives To Launch National Anti-Tobacco Campaign

A nationwide campaign to reduce tobacco use and curb related health risks has been launched in the Maldives.

The initiative was unveiled by Health Minister Geela Ali at a press conference held at the President’s Office, with officials stressing the need for cooperation between government bodies, private sector groups, and civil society.

A key focus of the campaign will be awareness programmes in schools, targeting both students and parents, with nationwide education drives planned across all Maldivian schools.

Authorities say the campaign will also promote community participation through sports, youth activities, and NGO-led outreach programmes.

As part of broader measures, the government plans to introduce incentives for smokers who quit, alongside stronger enforcement of existing tobacco control laws.
