The Maldives Zakat House collected MVR 7.59 million in Zakat during May, marking a 75.3% increase compared to the same month last year.
According to the latest figures, MVR 2.69 million was distributed from the Zakat Fund, with the largest share allocated to supporting the poor and needy, particularly for medical assistance, which accounted for MVR 1.45 million.
The Zakat House also spent more than MVR 1.03 million on religious and educational initiatives, including support for Quran memorisation, translation of Islamic books, and assistance for higher education students.
Officials say the increase in collections reflects growing public awareness of the importance of Zakat and greater trust in the country’s official Zakat system.
