Customs Seizes 324kg of Drugs in Two and a Half Years

The Maldives Customs Service has seized 324 kilograms of illicit drugs in operations carried out between January 2024 and June 2026, reflecting intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking.

According to Customs, the drugs were confiscated in 147 cases, marking a 27% increase in drug-related cases and a 31% rise in the total weight of drugs seized compared to previous years.

Between 2021 and 2023, Customs seized 247 kilograms of drugs across 116 cases.

Officials say the latest figures highlight strengthened border control measures and closer cooperation between the Maldives Customs Service, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Maldives Police Service to prevent illegal drugs from entering the country.
