The government is developing a long-term plan to address traffic congestion and parking challenges in Malé City, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has announced.
Speaking at a press conference, the minister said improving transport in the capital is a key priority of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration. He noted that the initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Housing, the Ministry of Environment, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and the Maldives Police Service.
Among the key projects is the widening and modernisation of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, which is expected to ease traffic congestion. The plan also includes measures to improve parking across the city.
Minister Saeed said the continued development of Hulhumalé and increasing travel demand require a sustainable transport network linking Malé, Hulhumalé and the bridge. He added that the government hopes to work closely with the Malé City Council to deliver lasting solutions for residents.
