The government says the Malé Taxi Line has gained strong public confidence, recording 6,912 trips between 12 August and Sunday.
Speaking at a press conference, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed said the service completed 3,569 trips within Malé City and 528 trips to Vilimalé, with thousands of users booking rides through the mobile application.
According to the minister, 6,112 bookings were made via the app, while around 800 customers used the 1655 hotline. The application is now available on both iOS and Android devices.
The taxi service, operated by MTCC, will eventually use 150 eco-friendly electric vehicles, offering different vehicle options for city travel, airport transfers and larger groups.
The government says improving transport and resolving parking challenges in Malé City remain key priorities, with work underway on a broader plan to address the capital’s transportation needs.
