First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has called for a renewed national effort to eliminate tobacco use, urging every sector of society to play a role in building a tobacco-free Maldives.
Speaking at the World No Tobacco Day ceremony held at Mulaku School Hall, the First Lady officially launched the country’s new five-year anti-tobacco campaign under the theme “Anti-Tobacco Campaign: Let’s Stop It.” She expressed confidence that the initiative would deliver meaningful results and stressed the need for collective action to reduce the health and social harms caused by tobacco.
The First Lady also appealed to cafés, restaurants and businesses across the country to take the lead in creating a tobacco-free society.
As part of the event, she unveiled the campaign’s official logo, signed a tobacco-free pledge board and participated in a live canvas painting to promote awareness.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of the Health Minister’s Award for Tobacco Control Excellence. Following the event, the First Lady visited student-designed awareness stalls and poster exhibitions at Mulaku School.
