Government Identifies 19 Priority Projects

The government has identified 19 priority projects for national development and set minimum investment requirements for their implementation.

According to details released by the President’s Office, the projects cover areas including national security, housing, infrastructure, tourism and youth development.

The largest allocation is for projects aimed at protecting the independence and sovereignty of the Maldives, with a minimum investment requirement of USD 100 million.

Among the major projects are the reclamation and development of 15 hectares of land for Hope Island at Giraavaru Falhu and the reclamation and construction of 30 hectares for a Central Prison Complex.

The list also includes investments for social housing projects, inter-island causeways, airport development and a High Performance Centre for Youth Development.

The projects have been designated under Article 5 of the Tourism Act, with details of the projects and investment requirements to be published annually in the Government Gazette.
