MDP candidate Abdulla Sadiq has won the North Hithadhoo parliamentary by-election, defeating PNC candidate Ahmed Saeed by 62 votes.
According to provisional results, Abdulla Sadiq secured 1,375 votes, while Ahmed Saeed received 1,313 votes. A total of 2,730 people voted in the election, representing a turnout of 66.25 percent, with 42 ballots declared invalid.
The by-election was held following the vacancy of the seat after the Supreme Court ruled that former MP Mohamed Sinan no longer met the requirements to remain in office.
Voting took place across seven ballot boxes, including five in Addu City and two in Malé for eligible voters residing in the capital.
Sadiq previously served three terms as Mayor of Addu City and also held the position of State Minister at the Housing Ministry during the previous administration.
