President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring safe and reliable food for the Maldivian public.

In a message marking World Food Safety Day, the President said protecting communities from foodborne diseases requires strong systems and collective action based on scientific knowledge and public awareness.

He noted that the government is working to strengthen food safety measures, including efforts to formulate a Food Safety Act and improve systems for monitoring and testing imported food products.

The President said these initiatives are aimed at ensuring that food available in the Maldives supports public health and well-being. He also highlighted the importance of food safety in achieving broader health and sustainable development goals.

In his message, the President additionally expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza and called for international efforts to address shortages of safe food and clean water.
