President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Hassan Zareer as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises following the resignation of Moosa Zameer.

Zareer took his oath of office at a ceremony held at the President’s Office, where the oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Mohamed Saleem.

Before his appointment, Zareer served as Commissioner General of Taxation at MIRA. He holds a Master of Science in Finance and a Bachelor of Accounting from the International Islamic University Malaysia, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and a CPA Australia member.

His previous roles include Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation at MIRA, Chief Public Accounts Executive at the Finance Ministry, Group Chief Compliance Officer at Villa Shipping and Trading Company, and Chairperson of the Board of Bank of Maldives.

Zareer also serves as Co-Chair of the OECD Global Forum on Tax Transparency Asia Initiative and has held board positions at several state-owned enterprises.

He succeeds Moosa Zameer, who stepped down citing health reasons.
