Maldivian Launches First-Ever Direct Flights to Australia

Maldivian has officially launched direct flights to Australia, marking the airline’s first-ever route to the country.

The inaugural flight departed from Velana International Airport last night and landed at Melbourne Airport after a 10-hour journey using an A330-200 aircraft.

The flight marks a historic first for Maldivian, with charter operations now underway. The aircraft is expected to return to the Maldives tomorrow with passengers from Australia, with a special ceremony planned at VIA.

According to the government, the route aims to strengthen Maldives–Australia ties while creating new trade and transport opportunities.

Weekly flights will operate between Malé and Melbourne, with the new route also expected to boost Australian tourist arrivals and support the Maldivian economy.
