Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua has called for a stable China-U.S. relationship, warning that growing global tensions are increasing the need for cooperation between major powers.
In an article, Kong pointed to ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, rising tensions in the Middle East, pressure on shipping routes in the Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz, as well as global economic uncertainty.
The ambassador highlighted the recent meeting between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump, where both sides agreed to build a “constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability.”
Kong said the approach focuses on four areas: expanding cooperation, keeping competition within limits, managing differences through dialogue, and avoiding conflict.
He also reaffirmed China’s stance on Taiwan, stating that the one-China principle remains the political foundation of China-U.S. relations and opposing Taiwan independence.
Kong added that China is ready to work with countries including the Maldives to support multilateral cooperation, peace and global stability.
