The Criminal Court has sentenced two journalists over violations of a court order related to the “Aisha” documentary case.

Maldives Journalists Association Vice President Mohamed Shahzan was sentenced to 15 days in prison, while journalist Leevaan Ali Naseer received a 10-day sentence.

According to the court, the case concerns an order issued in connection with the documentary produced by Adhadhu. Shahzan’s sentence followed remarks made during a press conference at the President’s Office, while Leevaan’s conviction was linked to reporting on the matter.

The Criminal Court order had prohibited the publication and circulation of the documentary and related statements, citing the need to protect public ethics and the dignity of individuals involved.

Authorities have also filed charges against Adhadhu CEO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa and editor Hassan Mohamed in connection with the case.
