Racing Track Reclamation to Begin Next Week

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that land reclamation for a racing track will begin next week.

He made the announcement at the Espresso with the President youth event, saying the track will allow the Maldives to host international racing competitions.

The facility will be developed outside the Hulhumalé highway. It will be designed for both racing and drifting, with a secured and paved track supported through land reclamation.

The President said funding has already been allocated, with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) tasked with implementation. He described the project as a dedicated space for young people and a positive step for local motorsports.

Currently, drifting events are held on public roads in Hulhumalé, especially in Phase Two, as well as in other areas such as Addu City. Residents have raised concerns over disturbances caused by these activities.

The racing community has long called for a dedicated facility, raising the issue with multiple governments over the years.

In his Presidential Address earlier this year, Muizzu said work on the racing track would begin in the first quarter, positioning it as a long awaited solution.
