President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that the government is conducting technical studies for an undersea tunnel linking Malé City and Rasmale’, aiming to address the housing challenges in the Greater Malé Region.
Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office, he emphasized that the reclamation project in Rasmale’ is a top priority. Land reclamation is currently underway using three dredgers, including the two largest in the world, with 400 to 500 hectares already reclaimed.
The President expressed eagerness to complete the reclamation and related projects by the end of next month, fulfilling his pledge to connect Malé and Rasmale’ via an underwater tunnel, which he said would help alleviate housing pressures in the capital region.
