Federico Valverde has scored a stunning first-half hat-trick as Real Madrid beat Manchester City 3–0 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Valverde opened the scoring in the 20th minute after rounding Gianluigi Donnarumma. He struck again seven minutes later with a powerful left-footed shot.
The Uruguayan completed his hat-trick in the 42nd minute, lifting the ball over Marc Guéhi before firing a volley into the bottom corner.
Vinícius Júnior missed a chance to extend the lead from the penalty spot after Donnarumma saved his effort.
Madrid now take a three-goal advantage into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium next week.
