MTCC has prepared to resume construction of Alifushi Airport in Raa Atoll after Ramadan.
Work on the project began in 2022 but stalled before completion.
Parts of the airport have already taken shape. The terminal building is partly complete, while the fire and rescue station is nearly finished.
MTCC said finishing materials for the main structures are already on site, allowing work to restart soon after Ramadan.
The project includes 50.5 hectares of reclaimed land. Around 80 percent will support airport operations, while 10 percent is allocated for housing and commercial use.
The airport will feature a 1,200-metre runway, apron, taxiway and supporting road network.
The project is funded through the state budget at a cost of USD 27.64 million.
During a visit to Alifushi in 2024, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said the airport will support economic activity and create new opportunities for residents.
