Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast dangerous levels of air pollution across parts of the Maldives over the next two days.

The Met Office has warned that haze will affect several regions of the country during this period.

Air quality is also expected to remain poor in the southern atolls, the agency said.

Conditions have already worsened compared to earlier this week, with reduced visibility reported in several areas.

Air quality monitoring shows the national average index above 68, while readings in Malé has reached 113.

Monitoring equipment at Maldives National University’s Centre for Maritime Studies campus in Villimalé has recorded an AQI of 157.

Experts say an AQI above 50 is considered moderate, while levels above 100 increase health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups.
