Construction has begun on a causeway linking K. Maafushi with the island’s reclaimed area, according to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The 137-metre bridge project, valued at MVR 35.42 million, is scheduled for completion within a year.
MTCC said the project will improve connectivity and support further development of Maafushi, one of the Maldives’ largest guesthouse hubs. The reclaimed land is set to be leased for housing, industrial and commercial purposes, boosting the island’s infrastructure and economy.
A ceremony marking the start of construction was held in Maafushi, attended by senior island council and government officials.
