Tourism and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim says efforts are underway to develop 168 islands as resorts, with seven set to be completed by the end of this year.
Speaking at a press conference, the minister said the new resorts will add more than 1,000 beds to the market.
He added that the government aims to increase total tourism revenue to USD 6 billion.
The minister noted that the largest increase in beds over the past two years has come from guesthouses, and that additional capacity has been added to the tourism sector since President Mohamed Muizzu took office.
