Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is calling for Presidential and Parliamentary elections to be held on the same day, saying it would boost democracy and voter turnout.
Speaking at a Congress Party event, he noted that past cycles saw presidential turnout over 85%, but parliamentary participation dropped when polls were held separately.
Muizzu also argued that separate elections disrupt governance and budget planning, and that merging them would ensure future budgets reflect the people’s mandate.
He urged voters to support the change in the April 4 referendum, calling it the most beneficial path for the country.
