Nigel Farage has said in the UK Parliament that sovereignty over the Chagos Islands belongs to the Maldives, not Mauritius.
The Reform UK leader criticised the UK’s move to transfer control to Mauritius and said the Maldives is preparing to file a counter case. He called for the bill to be paused until the International Court of Justice rules.
Farage, who recently visited the Maldives, also accused the government of blocking his planned visit to Chagos a claim authorities have denied.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has previously said the Maldives has geographic, historical and legal grounds over Chagos.
