Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to continue bringing services closer to the people in a message marking Decentralisation Day.
He said the government has strengthened the decentralisation system over the past two years by increasing council revenues, raising staff salaries and constructing modern council buildings. He also highlighted expanded health, education and police services across the islands, along with wider access to ATMs, ID and passport services.
Major infrastructure projects, including roads, harbours, water and sewerage systems, are progressing nationwide, he said.
With local council elections ahead, the President expressed hope that councils will play a stronger role in meeting the aspirations of the Maldivian people.
