New statistics released by the Maldives Police Service has shown that road accidents and theft are the most reported crimes so far this year.

Police recorded a total of 1,325 cases nationwide. Road accidents topped the list with 380 cases, followed closely by 357 theft cases. Drug-related offences ranked third, with 217 cases reported.

Police stations across the Greater Malé’ Region and the atolls continue efforts to curb crime and maintain public safety.

To reduce accidents, police have again urged motorists to avoid speeding and strictly follow traffic rules, warning that reckless driving remains a major cause of road incidents.
