Applications for flats and land plots under the government’s “Housing for All” programme have officially opened, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development announced today.
Applications for flats are now being accepted through the Hiyaavahi housing portal and will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on April 17. Meanwhile, applications for land plots under the programme must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on March 4. All applications are required to be submitted online through the official housing portal.
Under the programme, a total of 7,900 flats will be handed over. Of these, 4,000 flats have been allocated for residents of Malé, while 100 flats each have been reserved for single mothers and single fathers with children under the age of 18, and people with disabilities. In addition, 250 flats have been allocated for youth, 100 flats for the judiciary, and 100 flats for police, MNDF, and correctional services staff.
The housing policy also outlines the allocation of land plots. Residents of Malé City from the Greater Malé Region and Rasmalé’ will be eligible to receive land plots from both areas. However, residents of other islands currently living in Malé City will be allocated land plots only from Rasmalé’. Each land plot will measure 1,250 square feet.
The ministry said the policy was revised following concerns raised by residents during a series of public meetings held in Malé City. The changes were made to better reflect public feedback and ensure fairer access to housing.
Providing housing for individuals and families without adequate accommodation remains one of the key priorities of the current administration, the ministry emphasized.
