Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has confirmed that 18.75 percent of the land reclamation project for the H.A Dhidhdhoo airport development has been completed.

MACL said 21 hectares out of the total 111 hectares planned under the project have already been reclaimed. The work is being carried out using one of the world’s largest trailing suction hopper dredgers, Liv Erickson.

According to MACL, the dredger can extract up to 46,000 cubic metres of sand at a time, significantly accelerating the pace of land reclamation. The company said the equipment will help ensure faster progress on the airport development project.
