MACL Reclaims 56 Hectares at Rasmale’ Site A, Marking 41% Completion of Project

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that 56 hectares of land have been successfully reclaimed at Site A as part of the larger Rasmale’ reclamation project.

The ambitious project aims to reclaim a total of 1,009 hectares of land, with 137.5 hectares specifically allocated for Site A. With the recent progress, 41 percent of Site A’s reclamation has now been completed.

The site is being developed using the Cristobal Cologne, the world’s largest trailer suction hopper dredger, which has a capacity of 46,000 cubic meters. MACL began reclamation work at Site A on December 1, 2025.

Once complete, the reclaimed area will be utilized for housing, industrial facilities, and marina development. President Waheed has stated that 15,000 people will be selected to receive land in the area before the reclamation is fully completed. This plan was previously highlighted by Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The Rasmale’ reclamation project represents a major step in expanding the Maldives’ urban and industrial infrastructure, supporting both residential growth and economic development.
