Hussain Sunny Umar, head of The Travel Guys Private Limited, has been remanded in custody over allegations of sexually abusing a minor.
The Criminal Court ordered his continued detention on Wednesday after his initial 30-day remand expired.
Sunny Umar also operates a media PR firm under the Halal Tourism brand. The case follows a complaint filed by the family of the alleged victim.
Authorities said he was abroad when the case surfaced. He was arrested at Velana International Airport upon his return to the Maldives on December 4, 2019.
His trial is pending.
