Velana International Airport (VIA) is set to serve more than 27,000 passengers today, according to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
This marks the second busiest day of the year for the airport in terms of passenger volume.
MACL said the international terminal will handle 22,142 passengers, including 11,035 departures from the Maldives and 11,107 arrivals. Meanwhile, the domestic terminal is expected to cater to 4,843 passengers, with 2,652 departing from Malé and 2,191 arriving.
A total of 239 air traffic movements are also scheduled for the day.
Commenting on the milestone, MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef said today is among the busiest in the airport’s history. He noted that efforts are underway to reduce queue times and improve service efficiency, adding that the passenger experience at the new terminal has shown clear improvements.
