Emirates has become the latest airline to begin operations at the new passenger terminal of Velana International Airport.
The launch was marked with a special ceremony at the new terminal. Emirates officially opened its check-in counters during the event. Passengers on the first flight received gifts. Airport authorities welcomed the aircraft with a ceremonial water salute.
Emirates is the largest airline in the Middle East. It is the fourth airline from the UAE to operate from the new terminal. The airline has served the Maldives since May 27, 1987.
Emirates currently operates flights to 36 destinations worldwide. Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said it aims to deliver high-quality services to all airlines flying to the Maldives.
