Hosts Morocco began their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 campaign with a 2–0 win over Comoros in rainy Rabat, but the victory did not come easily.
Morocco missed an early chance when Yannick Pandor saved Soufiane Rahimi’s penalty in the 11th minute. Comoros defended deep and frustrated the hosts until Brahim Diaz broke the deadlock early in the second half.
The Real Madrid midfielder finished calmly from close range after a low cross from Noussair Mazraoui. Comoros pushed for an equaliser, but goalkeeper Yassine Bounou stood firm.
Substitute Ayoub El Kaabi sealed the win with a stunning overhead kick. Morocco played without captain Achraf Hakimi and lost defender Romain Saiss to injury.
The win extends Morocco’s unbeaten run to 19 matches. They face Mali next in a tougher test.
