President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that students will no longer be allowed to use mobile phones during class from the next academic year.
The President made the announcement while meeting residents of Hulhumalé Phase I, during a visit to Phase I last night. He said many parents have called for stronger action to control phone use in schools.
Students in Grade 10 and below are already banned from bringing phones, but enforcement has been weak. The President said this rule will be strictly enforced from the start of the next academic year. Phones will not be allowed during school hours.
A’ Level students may bring phones to school, but schools will keep them in lockers. The President said the move aims to improve discipline and learning, echoing long-standing concerns raised by parents and students.
