Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) says land reclamation in Hulhumalé Phase 3 is more than halfway complete, with 40 hectares reclaimed so far.
MACL confirmed that the reclaimed area accounts for 63 percent of the planned 63 hectares for Phase 3. Reclamation work first began in October 2023 but resumed on November 10 after a temporary halt.
To speed up progress, the government deployed two large dredgers, each capable of excavating 22,000 cubic metres of sand per load. Operations using Boskalis’ trailing suction hopper dredger started on November 28.
Once reclamation is complete, the government will move ahead with the allocation of plots to eligible recipients in Hulhumalé Phase 3.
