Land reclamation at Hulhumalé Phase 3 has reached the halfway mark, with more than 31 hectares completed so far.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said 31.5 hectares have been reclaimed out of the planned 63 hectares, bringing progress to 50 percent.
Two large dredgers are currently operating at the site to speed up the work. One of them is Boskalis’ trailing suction hopper dredger, which can extract 22,000 cubic metres of sand at a time.
MACL said it aims to complete the reclamation work within the next one and a half months.
The government has announced that land plots will be released to eligible recipients in Hulhumalé Phase 3 after the reclamation project is completed.
