Police has reported losses of over MVR 500,000 to scams in early December.
According to police statistics, 45 scam cases were reported between December 1 and 14. The total amount stolen reached MVR 591,751.47. Authorities managed to recover MVR 130,287.30.
Police recorded 17 e-commerce-related scams, along with seven fraudulent money cases, five currency exchange scams, and four phishing link cases. Another 12 cases involved other types of scams.
Police warned that scammers often use photos of vulnerable children or posts about people seeking help on social media. These posts aim to exploit public sympathy and deceive victims.
