President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said the government will amend the Pension Act to allow withdrawals for treatment of chronic illnesses.
Speaking at a ceremony, the President said work is underway to submit an amendment bill to parliament. He said the bill will be presented when parliament reconvenes after its recess.
Dr. Muizzu said the changes will allow pension funds to be accessed under special circumstances. He noted that this was one of his key pledges.
The President said the amendment aims to ease financial pressure on those seeking long-term medical treatment.
