Construction of the Dhuvaafaru harbour expansion has begun.
The government awarded the project to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). Minister of Construction Dr. Abdullah Mutalib inaugurated the works at a ceremony in Dhuvaafaru.
The project includes 62,264 cubic metres of dredging, new outer and inner harbour walls, and the construction of a bridge and a jetty to improve access. A 154 metre jetty and additional harbour structures will also be built.
The project costs MVR 142.11 million and is scheduled for completion within 450 days. Authorities say the expanded harbour will ease long-standing challenges faced by fishermen and improve safety and efficiency at the harbour.
