The first vessel carrying goods from Tuticorin has docked at Kulhudhuffushi Port, boosting trade for the northern atolls.
he vessel arrived yesterday carrying 127 tonnes of cargo, including construction materials from STO and perishable goods from a private business.
Currently, one monthly trip is scheduled from Tuticorin to Kulhudhuffushi. Maldives Ports Limited said the frequency could increase as demand grows.
Officials said the permanent transport route will help residents of Kulhudhuffushi and other northern atolls access goods at lower prices.
MPL has worked to improve regional harbor operations and held meetings with local business owners in August to expand trade opportunities. Last year, goods also began arriving from Tuticorin to Hithadhoo Port, initially with one trip per month, now increased.
