Velana International Airport’s new Terminal 1 has officially welcomed German airline Condor, marking a major milestone for the Airport.
Condor began using Terminal 1 today. VIA held a special ceremony to celebrate the start of services. WAMCO Managing Director Mujuthaba Jaleel attended as chief guest.
Condor officials also joined the event, including Area Manager Stephan McKenna and Regional Ground Operations Manager Ron Plen. Senior MACL officials were present as well.
During the ceremony, Condor’s check-in counters opened. Staff handed gifts to 302 departing passengers. The airline’s first arrival at Terminal 1, flight DE2320, brought 277 passengers. They received a warm cultural welcome.
Condor first launched flights to the Maldives on October 31, 1981. Today, it became the first German airline to operate from VIA’s new Terminal 1.
With Condor’s move, the number of airlines operating from Terminal 1 has now reached 26.
