Hanimaadhoo International Airport has officially opened its new terminal, marking a major milestone in the northern region’s aviation development.
The terminal was inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and India’s Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Mohan Naidu, at a special ceremony held today.
The first aircraft to land on the newly developed runway was a Maldivian Airlines A320, captained by a pilot from Haa Dhaalu Atoll, symbolizing a proud moment for the local community.
The new 10,380 square-meter terminal features modern, state-of-the-art facilities and can accommodate 1.3 million passengers annually. The upgraded airport is also capable of handling A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft, significantly expanding operational capacity.
The development project is valued at USD 136.6 million, making it one of the largest infrastructure investments in the northern Maldives. MACL states that the upgraded airport will enhance regional connectivity, support economic growth, and improve travel convenience for both residents and international visitors.
