Chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Fayyaz Ismail, has resigned from his post.
Fayyaz, who previously served as the Economic Minister, announced his decision today, stating that he did not want to become an obstacle to the party’s operations. He said remaining in the role would not serve the best interests of the chairperson or the party during the current circumstances.
In his statement, Fayyaz described serving the party as one of the greatest honors of his life, highlighting the dedication of members who have championed public rights and empowerment. He affirmed that he will continue contributing to the party’s reform efforts as a member of both the national council and general council.
Fayyaz Ismail was elected as MDP Chairperson on May 23, 2022, during the party’s internal elections.
