The government has earmarked MVR 5.6 billion for education in the 2026 State Budget, making it the secondlargest allocation after health.
MVR 1.9 billion will go to preschool and primary education, and MVR 1.2 billion to secondary education. Post secondary education gets MVR 218.1 million, while higher education receives MVR 831.7 million.
Under the PSIP, MVR 779 million is set aside for education projects. Of this, MVR 598.5 million funds school construction and upgrades, and MVR 124.2 million supports higher education.
Colleges and universities receive MVR 116.8 million, and research institutes and libraries get MVR 7 million.
