The People’s Majlis has approved a new dress code to ensure professionalism and respect during parliamentary sessions.
The regulation was passed today with 48 votes in favor. The General Committee proposed adding the dress code as an appendix to the Majlis regulations.
Speaker Abdulla Raheem earlier raised concern over members attending sessions without ties, saying it diminished the dignity of the Majlis.
Under the new rule, members must wear formal attire, which includes:
-
Suit and trousers
-
Shirt, tie, and trousers
-
National dress or Maldivian cultural attire
-
Any other formal wear that meets standards of decency
The amendment also prohibits clothing that violates general decorum. All individuals entering the Majlis chamber must now comply with the dress code.
Officials said the change aims to uphold discipline and the institution’s public image.
